Taking Tests

Breathe!
-
The last thing your brain needs is to be stressed out. Try one of these techniques before a test to calm your mind and heart!
-

-
Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold it for 4 seconds, then exhale for 4 seconds. Repeat as much as needed.
-
Focus on breathing into your belly. Expand your belly then slowly release. Repeat.

Focus
-
Minimize distractions.
-
Be present in the room where you are taking your test.
-
Remember all the studying you did and be proud of yourself!
-
Write yourself a motivational message at the top of your paper.
-
Don't worry about what anyone else is doing.
-
Notice where your attention is. Remember, your attentional octopus can only handle 4 things at once but one thing at a time is the best way.

Don't panic
-
If you come across a question you don't know or maybe are momentarily forgetting the answer to, leave it and come back.
-
Panicking triggers cortisol, the stress hormone to be released which can interfere with memory and attention.
-
Put a little mark next to the question so you remember to return to it.
